Granger Project Awarded Community Partner of the Year
The Decatur-Morgan County Landfill, located in Trinity, Ala. and managed by the City of Decatur, was recently awarded the Environmental Protection Agency’s Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) Community Partner of the Year.

The EPA LMOP seeks to recognize the best in the landfill gas industry. The Decatur-Morgan County Landfill project was presented the award during the 15th Annual LMOP Partner and Project of the Year Awards Ceremony on Jan. 18, 2012, in Baltimore, Md. Mr. Rickey Terry, landfill director, accepted the award for Decatur-Morgan County Landfill.

Lansing-based Granger, which established two electric generating stations for the Decatur-Morgan County Landfill, is proud of the landfill’s accomplishments. Granger operates the landfill gas-to-energy program for the landfill, representing a green power public-private partnership with Decatur-Morgan County.

“This is such an achievement for both the Decatur-Morgan County Landfill and for Granger,” said CEO Keith Granger. “We are helping to collect tomorrow’s energy every day, and it’s wonderful to have our partner recognized for the positive impact of this project for the local community.”

One of the Decatur-Morgan County Landfill’s greatest strengths is how actively it seeks to better its community. According to calculations by the EPA LMOP, the two engine generators provide the following annual benefits:
  • A reduction of greenhouse gases approximate to the annual emissions from more than 12,974 passenger vehicles
  • A reduction of greenhouse gases equivalent to the carbon sequestered by more than 14,468 acres of pine or fir forests
  • Annual energy savings equal to powering 945 average homes*
Granger is a third generation, family-owned and operated business based in Lansing, Mich. Through innovation and planned growth, Granger has evolved into a leading comprehensive environmental management firm responsible for the recovery of resources through recycling, composting and landfill gas-to-energy programs.
