What You Need to Know about Renting a Container

By Rachael on October 26, 2017

Most of the time, your Curby cart or bags work just fine, but once in a while, you may have a bit too much trash for that to be practical. Like cleaning out your basement for the first time in 20 years or replacing that leaky roof. For situations like these, if you don’t have a trailer to haul that extra trash to one of our Disposal Centers, renting a large temporary container might be your best option. While we try to make the process of ordering a container quick and easy, you may have some questions. Read the FAQs below to find out what you need to know before renting a container.

How big are the containers?
Available sizes include 10-yard, 14-yard, 20-yard, 30-yard and 40-yard containers. (Large temporary containers are not available in all of Granger’s service territory and availability for certain sizes will vary based on demand.) View our containers here.

How do I know what size container to rent?
Take a look at our sizes here. Dimensions are listed for each container. It’s best to choose a larger container if you’re on the fence, because it will probably be more cost effective. Otherwise, you may have to pay to have it emptied a second time or to order another container. If you need assistance with choosing a size, contact us at 1-888-9GRANGER. We’ll be happy to help.

How long can I keep the container?
You can keep your temporary container for a week. If it’s full before that and you’d like to request an earlier pickup, just let us know. If you need to keep it for longer than a week, we can make that happen. You’ll just need to tell us that when you order it or give us a call before it’s scheduled to be picked up. Otherwise, we’ll automatically have it picked up a week from the day you order it. There will be an additional daily charge for every day you keep the container after the first week.

Where will the container be placed?
Usually, we can place the container where you request it, as long as it is on level ground and there are no restrictions such as overhead wires or tight spaces that don’t allow the truck to maneuver. If you have concerns about the area you want to place the container, just be sure to let us know when you make your request.

What can I put in the container?
General household trash and construction debris can go in the containers. There are restrictions on very heavy material, such as concrete. Old appliances can be placed in there as well, but shouldn’t be buried by other trash. There will be an extra charge for appliances containing Freon or another refrigerant as we will need to have it removed.

What can’t go in my container?
Please read our waste acceptance policy for prohibited items.

How much do they cost?
Charges vary based on size, travel distance and type of material (household trash or construction debris). Call our office at 1-888-9GRANGER for a quote or fill out the form at /request-service/. (We’ll let you know how much it will be before charging you.)

How do I order? And how soon can I get it after I request a container?
First, fill out our service request form or call us at 1-888-9GRANGER. We’ll ask for your payment before scheduling your container.

Usually, we only need a day or two to process your request, but timing may be affected by how busy we are. It’s always best to request your container at least one week in advance if your flexibility is limited.

Now you’re ready to rent!
